Sketch Challenge Card Version for Hip Kit Club

Hi friends!  This week over at the Hip Kit Club Facebook Group there's a sketch challenge with a twist.  We're creating cards for the weekly challenge, and incorporating cut files and fussy cut pieces. That's a lot going on right!?

This is the sketch, and I'm creating with the July kits.  The layered circles are a strong design element on this sketch, so I've searched through the back-catalogue of exclusive cut files to find some that are circular, or very similar to circular.

This beautiful geometric heart is a subscriber cut file from March 2019, and is part of the word 'Magic'.  In Silhouette Studio I separated the heart from the rest of the word, cut it once in white cardstock and then used the offset tool and cut it again in purple to create a kind of drop shadow or border for the white heart.  I fussy cut flowers from the black and white floral paper after colouring a cluster of them with the Lindy's Gang sprays from the July colour kit.  I simply mixed the Blue Hawaiian Blue and Hibiscus Rose sprays together to create two pretty shades of purple.

My second card features the Doily cut file which is a freebie cut file from March 2019.  I love a doily any day of the week, so I was excited to be able to use this one.  I resized it from 12x12 to just under 5 inches so that it would work for my card, and added some layered cardstock and patterned paper die cut circles to represent the layers in the sketch.   I again painted the black and white paper with sprays from the colour kit. 

The final card in the set uses the beautiful Laurel Wreath subscriber cut file from January 2019.    I first cut it in white cardstock and adhered it to the card, before stitching around it a few times in regular white thread on my sewing machine.

I painted and fussy cut some of the smaller flowers on the black and white paper, and some of the yellow and white daisies from the Echo Park Paper Co sunshine floral paper to adorn the wreath.

Celebration Card Set | Hip Kit Club

Hi friends! Today I have a fun celebration card set created for Hip Kit Club, that uses the June 2019 kits.

Whenever I make a set of cards I always try to have a similar theme or use similar products with all of them.  For this set I've used similar products on each one... can you spot them?...

They're the same alphas for the sentiments, the Amy Tan faux suede flowers, a frame, a stitched banner, circles punched from a little mixed media play, a postage stamp element, and a circle sticker turned into a round tag.  Whoa, I've actually surprised myself with everything on that list!

My first card is all about pastel pinks and greys, with pops of pomegranate (is that even a colour!?) I've combined the pretty holographic scripty phrase/word puffy stickers with a candy cane alpha from the Heidi Swapp sticker book to create my sentiment, and I love having a combination of two alphas in the one sentiment.

The grey frame is from Pinkfresh Studio and originally was a layered frame.  Since I didn't need all the extra bits I carefully unpicked the stitching holding the extra layers on, and then used some metallic gold thread to stitch over the holes left by the original stitching.  It doesn't look out of place at all, and  adds a little more sparkle and texture to the card.

My second card uses the same elements in a pastel orange and pink colour palette with pops of yellow.  You guys know I love shaker pockets and I couldn't help creating a shaker element on this one using the sweet green frame.

On my final card I flipped the frame so that it's vertically upside-down on my card.  This draws the eye to the darker colours at the top of the card, following down the cascading ephemera pieces to the sentiment.

I can't wait to give these celebration cards to someone, they're so bright and happy and fun!

Pretty Card Trio | Hip Kit Club

I love putting together card sets, so I was really excited to create these three for Hip Kit Club this week.  

I pulled a mini-kit of supplies from the May 2019 kits so that I could create cards that were coordinating, but each still have their individual design.  I used mostly the Pinkfresh Studio Joyful Day papers that have beautiful floral elements on them, and reached for the amazing fabric bows from the Main Kit, and paper tassels and sequins from the Embellishment Kit.

I started with a pretty dress from the Clothes Line subscriber cut file for this card, cut in pink cardstock, and backed it with papers before adding a tiny pink fabric bow.  I love how the floral paper really looks like a gorgeous floral dress.

I used layers of patterned paper and edge punched cardstock for the background, and added a shaker element underneath an embroidered frame, and rather than topping it with acetate or plastic, used some tulle from my stash.  It kinda gives it a textured and feminine look!

My second card started with me cutting a few flowers from the Daisies subscriber cut file, and I resized them so that I had a range of steadily decreasing diameters to really show off a lot of layers on the flower.

A couple of paper tassels and some thread and ribbon from my stash add just a little more to this simple design.

My final card features the Go Girl sentiment from this month's freebie cut file, and I cut it once in pink cardstock, then used the offset tool in Silhouette Studio to create a slightly larger white layer background behind it, which really makes it pop against the busy background.  

I created a simple tag from patterned paper and backed it with white cardstock as well, with a pretty scalloped border at the bottom of it.

Something Goulish This Way Comes!

Today I have a sweet set of Halloween cards to share with you.

I've put these cards together with the gorgeous new Ghouls Like You collection from Traci Reed Designs.

There are so many awesome journalling cards in this collection and I chose one for each of my cards to be the jumping off point.  

The journalling cards come as 3x4, so I resized them to be 2 inches wide (a better size for cards), and then printed them off.  One of my favourite bonuses of hybrid scrapbooking is that you can resize elements to suit your project.

To save matting the cards I just trimmed them leaving a white border on each side.

I hand stitched a border in a peach embroidery thread and used a few of the stickers in the collection to layer around my resized journalling card.  Then I added some orange sequins from my stash to the flower centres.

The jumping off point for my second card was another journalling card that I resized to 2 inches wide.  How adorable are these ghosties!?  I mean... Hey Boo! <3

Traci's collections always come with coordinating patterned papers in solid colours and I printed off a medium pink one, ran it through a scalloped edge punch, and then tucked it behind the black patterned paper to help it pop.

This time I added some sequins to a spiders' web sticker to make it look like it's glistening in the moonlight in the dead of night...

I have to say this is the cutest Halloween collection I've seen, and I love how it has so many pops of pink in it, but has enough traditional black and orange that it can totally be used for boy projects too.

This collection is perfect for Father's Day projects, but also for any male projects.  I've made a card today that could be used for Father's Day, or a male birthday, or just as a thank-you!

I've used one of the more neutral papers for my background, and die cut a tag from that beautiful rich woodgrain.  Then layered a piece of the diamond paper from the collection (which totally reminds me of a sweater pattern!) before starting with some smaller embellishments.

My tip for today is to use elements in a collection in a different way than they were designed for.  I printed the bunting flag from the embellishment sheet, but trimmed out just two of the flags and then turned them upside down as another part of my layering, and I loved how they added to the overall design!

And the hero of the card, the pickle jar embellishment with the sentiment 'You're Kind of a Big Dill' bahaha.  Sooo adorable!!

A Pretty Layered Card with Clique Kits & Maggie Holmes

Today I'm playing with the gorgeous April 2018 main kit from Clique Kits called Winter Park.  This kit features the Maggie Holmes Flourish collection and I just love the combination of both rose and yellow gold in this collection and the kit.

I've created a card for this project with lots of layers, stitching, and some lace from my stash.

The gold vellum frame sits on top of a tag and shows some of the pretty pink florals through the centre, while still adding some extra detail in its own layer.

Maggie's Flourish collection has such lovely sentiments in it, and this one 'plant kindness, grow love' really suits my sister's (who is receiving this card) personality.

A Shaker Pocket Card with Clique Kits

Hi Friends!

Have you had a chance to check out the May Riga kit from Clique Kits yet?  Oh. My. Goodness, they are right up my alley with soo much rose gold and pretty pastels with navy and pops of coral, and of course gorgeous embellishments from Pink Fresh Studio!

Luckily for me my kit arrived just in time to create a card for a very special friend's 21st birthday.

This is a pretty simple card design but I love how it turned out.  I started with a base of patterned paper then cut a banner with some white cardstock from my stash.  To make my shaker pocket I diecut and layered two contrasting patterned papers to form the top border of the shaker pocket.  Then I just backed that with some plastic packaging from one of the products in the kit.

From there all you need to do to finish your shaker pocket is to run some dimensional adhesive behind the border and tip your sequins in (these gorgeous sequins came as part of the kit), before adhering to the back of the shaker element, in this case my white cardstock banner.

The sweet birdie just sits on the top of the clear plastic packaging.

To finish the card I pulled a couple more elements from the kit, the rose gold bakers twine and some ephemera pieces.

A Trio of Cards with A Star is Born

Do you have a performer in your midst that loves being on stage?  Or perhaps you a special gift for someone that is tickets to a movie, show or concert?

Today I've taken the A Star is Born collection by Traci Reed and made a trio of cards that would be perfect to accompany any good luck gift to a performer, or tickets to an event.

I know I've said this before but gosh I love how much sparkle Traci's been able to get into the

printable glitter papers in this collection.  They really do look like they're pure 3D glitter!  Obviously the gold is my favourite haha!

For the first card I started with a base layer of patterned paper, then used my WeRMemoryKeepers frame punch board to create a frame from a contrasting paper, which I backed with some white cardstock embossed through my Cuttlebug.

From there I just cut some star die cut pieces in coordinating colours and added a few of the stickers from the collection.  

This would be just perfect to pop tickets to an event into for one of your loved ones!

This is one.super.simple.card, but it has some beautiful bold and rich colours to it.  I've used the gorgeous navy/black and gold diamond paper for my background, which I've edged in a backstitch of gold embroidery thread.  

The main sentiment is one of the 3x4 cards from the collection, which I've run through my Cuttlebug with a circle die, and then layered with a larger circle in white cardstock and added some banners  in one of my (of course!) favourite gold glitter papers from the collection.

My final card is one that would be perfect to accompany a good luck gift to someone that had any kind of performance coming up.  I've started with the typewritten paper from the collection as a base, and then added the ruby polka dot paper for contrast, before (you guessed it!) a tag cut from the gold glitter paper.

I've popped one of the journalling tags from the sticker sheet behind the gold tag, and then layered a strip from the negative film paper towards the bottom of the card, and added some more sticker pieces, all topped off by a die cut bow (which I kind of  interpret as a bow tie!)

Your Creative Wings Inspiration

Hi everyone, today I have some Your Creative Wings inspiration for you!

I'm really fortunate to have a bunch of really old photos of my family, and mostly because of my Grandparents I also have the background story that goes along with them.  I love that family members who have gone before me, each in their own way help to shape my own life story.  A photo of my Grandma in her youth (in quite a revealing swimsuit for the era gasp!) inspired this vintage layout.

I'm totally loving the Doilyz Nest chipboard set which comes with 6 individual pieces.  In this layout I've used three of them and layered each with ephemera pieces.

I've recently purchased a set of Tinby Metallic Melts and thought I'd give them a try on this layout.  Tinby Metallic Melts are a chunky heat embossing powder with a metallic sheen.  I was aiming for a rustic finish, and as you can see on my title it gives a lovely aged look.  To achieve this look simply heat the powder until almost melted, but not completely.  I used three different colours throughout the layout, on the Doilyz Nest pieces, the large flourish and on my title.

The tiny pendant has so much detail to it, and when embossed with white embossing powder it shows  that detail through beautifully.

It's great to keep some smaller pieces of chippy on hand to tuck in here and there to add extra details, like the Birds - Cute set and Hearts & Arrows set.  I've applied Whipped Spackle roughly with a palette knife, allowed it to dry and then dripped mist onto each.  When the mist dried I dabbed on a little more gesso for a mottled effect.

I've also created some cards this month.

Do you have anyone in your life that you wished lived closer so that you could see them more often? Why not send them a card to remind them how much you think of them?  The Love Candy buttons have some sweet sentiments on them and this little 'Miss You' sentiment is so darn cute.

I've used another of the Doilyz Nest pieces, heat embossed in white and layered it over a die cut doily to create an additional layer (the Doilyz Nest pieces are so versatile!).  After arranging my flower cluster around the bottom left I've dabbed Liquid Pearls around the remaining inside border of the chippy.

I've again tucked a little Birds - Cute piece in with the flowers (heat embossed in white), and the Love Candy piece has been left raw to give it some contrast to the rest of the card, and draw your eye to it as the sentiment.

And lastly a card just to say "Love You".  Valentines Day has been and gone, but it doesn't hurt to remind our loved ones every now and then how much we appreciate them.

I was inspired by the Art Deco feel to this 3x4 card from Kaisercraft's XO collection.  With this theme in mind, flicking through my chippy pieces I was drawn to the styling of the Ornate Gate Medium chippy piece.  I painted it with Tim Holtz Distress Paint in Black Soot for maximum contrast to the 3x4 card. To continue with the Art Deco theme I've edge-punched some white cardstock and used it as a border.

The Love Candy pieces were the perfect size to replace the letter "O" in the word Love.  I've separated the very outside piece of the Love Candy and painted it as I did the gate, and the inside two pieces were then heat embossed in white.  Once reassembled they fit perfectly into a 25 (or 2.5cm) Epiphany Crafts Charm Setting.  This then nestled into a Heart Chain chippy piece that I painted with pink acrylic paint.
