TC Debbie & Other Stories

I always love the start of a new month, because that means the start of new kits hurrah!  I especially love the Dear Lizzy ephemera pack in the Citrus Twist Kits Add On kit this month.

Just look at that sweet little bunny from the Dear Lizzy ephemera pack.. he fits perfectly over the text on this journalling card!

I've used one of my favourite free fonts (called Digs My Heart) to document my dates for this week, and just added that as a tag over one of the filler cards from the Pocket Life kit.

To add a little detail to this journalling card I fussy cut a gorgeous swimsuit from one of the 6x6 patterned papers, and layered it together over some gold Colorshine and some other little elements.

My favourite thing to do with my PL is to put together hand-made filler cards.   So... I might have 'edited' a couple of ephemera pieces to make this card, but I love how it turned out!

The biggest news around our state this week was Tropical Cyclone Debbie. She caused a whole lot of damage to a lot of areas.  I took a screenshot of an image put up by our weather bureau and edited it to be black and white.  You can see that the cyclone covers the whole east coast of our state (Queensland), which is approximately 6,900km, or 4,300 mi in length (we do things BIG down here in Australia ha!)

Thankfully we escaped without too much damage where we are, but yes we were the lucky ones.  TC Debbie ended up sticking around for a few weeks and impacted New Zealand and even some other countries in a big way as well.

I'm Just Here for the Love Love Love!

This week's layout captures our weekend away at the Gold Coast, just the two of us.  We had so much fun eating out and shopping, but also just doing things like walking the streets in our joggers hanging out and chatting for hours on end.

Sometimes a layout comes together really quickly, and I found elements from Jen Hadfield's Simple Life collection, cards from the March Citrus Twist Kits Pocket Life kit and label stickers from the Pinkfresh Studio Dream On collection worked together so well in this spread.

These pretty blooms and filler card work so well together!

I love how this bow works so well with both sides of one patterned paper. Once assembled I placed it over a filler card and added a label and gold foiled sentiment.  Such a shame to squish the bow flat, but hey, it's still just a little bit cute right?!

And with the end of week 12 that wraps up a quarter of the year for 2017!  I'm trying to be conscious of the weeks as they're passing, but gosh time is flying!

Thanks for stopping  by today!

Week 11 for 2017

Sharing my week 11 today!  Playing again with the lovely March Pocket Life kit by Citrus Twist Kits and Pinkfresh Studio Dream On collection

This week we attended the Dance for Daniel ball in one of the beautiful city buildings in Brisbane. This ball is in honour of Daniel Morcombe and the foundation in his name.  The dress code each year is "red tie", because red is the colour shirt Daniel was wearing when he went missing.  Needless to say I wanted to include a photo from the ball in my weekly spread, but red didn't really fit with my colour palette.  So I just converted my photo to a black and white photo.

I used the clouds in the rainbow graphic on this background patterned paper as inspiration, and die-cut some clouds in cardstock.  I then embossed them with a polka dot embossing card.

I used the same technique on my right page with the embossed cardstock.  This time I hole punched a circle and embossed it, and then used that as a base for some ephemera pieces.  Both the buildings and tree pieces were cut down from larger pieces in the pack.

The journalling card on the right came pre-printed with the phrase "okay, I'll admit it".  I couldn't resist adding another stamp from the kit underneath that phrase, which reads "I run this show"!

I love these potted flower ephemera pieces in the Dream On collection!  Again I've just adhered this one on after running the card through my printer for the journalling.

And that's a wrap on week 11!

Thanks so much for stopping by today xx

Week 10

It was pretty refreshing in my week 9 spread to use some brights for a change, but all the same I'm super happy to be playing with the pretty pastels in the March Add On Kit from Citrus Twist Kits this week.

I have so much love for this patterned paper, it's called "Wildflowers" and is from Jen Hadfield's collection, Simple Life.  The front is the beautiful floral on off white, and the reverse is the off white polka dot on rose.  I'm literally using every.last.scrap!

To make this filler card I layered and stitched a contrasting piece of patterned paper over the base, then die cut a doily from white cardstock.  A few more layered ephemera pieces, some gold thread  and a wood veneer heart and I called it done.

That same patterned paper has teeny tiny sweet bicycles on the title strip.  I couldn't help but make my own little bicycle button by using a circle punch to punch out one of the bicycles, then topped it with some Glossy Accents to create a glossy button.  That made the perfect sized embellishment for one of my 3x4 cards this week!

These puffy Thickers and puffy stickers were perfect to layer straight on top of my photo.

I trimmed one of the stamps in the March Pocket Life kit down to fit on this label sticker.  Even though I've trimmed one of the words off the phrase, the remaining words "dreamer, thinker" still work with the photo of my daughter's pup's pensive gaze really well.

The weeks and months seem to be flying by, but it's kind of exciting seeing the pages starting to add up in my 2017 album.  I love watching my albums grow week by week.

Thanks for stopping by today!

You're So Sweet

I find myself saying that to our little Cavalier pup, a LOT you guys...  Violet has completely stolen our hearts!  So it was pretty hard on us when only three weeks after she came home with us, she developed a medical condition that needed treatment including a general anaesthetic and a minor operation.

Even when I picked her up from the vet, still groggy, and with her little yellow bandage on her leg, she was the sweetest thing ever.  So of course that's the title of my spread this week!

I've dived into my March Citrus Twist Kits this week, and the Pocket Life kit has a lot of super fun happy bright colours with the Pinkfresh Studio Dream On collection.  To be honest it's a little bit out of my comfort zone to be using brights, but I love how this spread turned out.

To create this hanging bow I just trimmed the top from one of the bow-tie pieces in the Dream On ephemera pack, and gently re-shaped it to be a little more droopy.

One of my favourite journalling card options at the moment is to add a smaller piece of ephemera to a grid or ledger journalling card and arrange my text around it.

Aren't the rainbows in this collection the best!?

Again this week I only had two photos to include.  Some weeks I'm blessed with photos that my kids send me or Snapchats that I screenshot, or even photos from an event that we might happen to go to, but as empty nesters that work full time, some weeks I really only have a couple of photos that I want to document.  I love that with my 6x8 Studio Calico album that I'm comfortable using as few or as many photos each week that I want.
